I'm soooo glad the twitching in my left eyelid has stopped. It has been annoying me for the past 3 DAYS! My gosh, i can't tell you how irritated i was by it. Esp yesterday, it was twitching almost every minute. It's like a little eye spasm you know. Twitching even when i'm bathing. I could even feel it when i sleep. If i can get a buck for everytime it twitched, i think i'll be kinda rich by now.

I wanted to go see the doctor yesterday. But decided to wait till today. So glad it stopped. Anyway, i went online to check what are some of the causes that made my eyelid twitch. And here's something i found out.

Alternative names
Eyelid spasm; Eye twitch; Blepherospasm; Twitch - eyelid

Definition
Blepharospasm is the medical term for when your eyelid muscles repeatedly and rhythmically contract. In some instances, the eyelid may repeatedly close (or nearly close) and re-open.
(nope, mine only twitched.)

Causes, incidence, and risk factors
The most common things that make the muscle in your eyelid twitch are fatigue, stress, and caffeine. Once spasms begin, they may continue off and on for a few days. Then, they disappear. Most people experience this type of eyelid twitch on occasion and find it very annoying. In most cases, you won't even notice when the twitch has stopped.

More severe contractions, where the eyelid completely closes, are possible. These can be caused by irritation of the surface of the eye (cornea) or the membranes lining the eyelids (conjunctiva).

Sometimes, the reason your eyelid is twitching cannot be identified. This form of eyelid twitching lasts much longer, is often very uncomfortable, and can also cause your eyelids to close completely.

Symptoms
In addition to having repetitive, uncontrollable twitching or spasms of your eyelid (usually the upper lid), you may be very sensitive to light or have blurry vision.

Treatment
Eyelid twitching usually disappears without treatment. In the meantime, the following steps may help:

Get more sleep.
Drink less caffeine.
Lubricate your eyes with eye drops.

If twitching is severe, small injections of Botulinum toxin can temporarily cure the spasms.

Ok. Maybe it's the many late nights of staying up late to watch tv is one of the causes for the twitch i had. Maybe a little stress is involved too. Well, the Prelims are next week.

You know, i think i can get quite stupidly paranoid. When i first had the twitch, the immediate thought of bad luck came into my mind. I tried to dismiss the idea because im not superstitious. That night, my family and i went out for dinner at this coffee shop. Then, there was this bright white flash all of a sudden. I was like 'my gosh, is that lightning?' The stupid twitching was still going on. Eyelid twitch = bad luck + lightning = thoughts of getting strike by lightning. There was the white flash again. I was getting worried at this point of time. Then, there was the flash again. But this time i realized it's coming from the camera flash of somebody's camera a few tables away. I cursed 'screw that asshole with the camera. i thought the flash was lightning.' And my whole family looked at me. Yup. Paranoid huh?
