I was watching this programme 'Scoop' on tv last night. It was on the phenomenon of 'Project Superstar' that is going on now. We had Singapore Idol last year. And it caused quite a frenzy. It's pretty amazing how some people can get utterly crazy over complete strangers in just a matter of a couple of months. Willing to spend so much time chasing the idols, queuing long hours at the meet and greet sessions, waiting patiently for them outside tv stations or some other places where they figured out their idols will be there, and lastly, spending so much money to vote for them.

I mean, if it's Jolin Tsai or Jay Chou i might be able to understand the craze. But the contestants of a local singing competition? I'm like, er, it's pretty stupid. Crazy over people who aren't even that famous. But if you're sure you'll be supporting the person all the way then i have nothing else to say.

Yes many people might be talking about 'Project Superstar' but that is only because it's the 'hottest' thing in town now. That doesn't mean those contestants are famous. Even now if you ask people what are the names of some of the contestants i'm sure most of them wouldn't even know. Or not bothered to know.

During the programme, an auntie was being interviewed. She was rooting for Kelvin. Mind you, her whole family was there to support too. When asked why she supported him, i expected the same cliche answer. '

Auntie: Because his singing is very good. His voice really touches our hearts. I'll do my best to make sure he doesn't lose.
Interviewer: So you will keep voting for him? How many times will you vote?
Auntie: *thinks it's such a serious question* No budget. I'll keep voting.

At this point, there was only one thing in my mind. If only her enthusiasm in calling to vote for the fellow contestant can be transferred to calling to donate for those many charity events on tv every now and then.

I really hope that auntie do vote so enthusiastically to charity events.

Don't you agree? It kinda pisses me off that something so unnecessary is being seen as more important than helping others who needs our help more. They will rather spend so much money on shooting one insignificant person to stardom (which may not last) than help improving the lives of many many other unfortunate people out there.

Sigh. But if people wanna do what they like. There is nothing that can be done to stop them too.

tell me about it.
*rolls eyes*
